Hi,

Does anyone know anything about BREW 1.2?

Apparently the new Sony-Ericsson T606 handset soon to be deployed by Verizon is a BREW 1.2 handset. I've never seen anything mentioned on BREW 1.2 and I can't find an SDK. I assumed this must have been a typo and it was really 2.0, or 1.0.2, or something like that... but we sent an email to Qualcomm to confirm and they simply said... it is BREW 1.2, download the SDK from the extranet.

Well I can't find it...

The only mention I can find of BREW 1.2 is in the Developer Tools area which says that the 2.1 tool suite works with BREW 1.2

any suggestions any body?

thanks in advance for any thoughts
cheers
Sul

The Kyocera 3225 also has v1.2 of the application execution environment (AEE). AllTel plans to release this phone in the fairly near future, if they haven't already.

I remember some limited discussion on v1.2 of the AEE during one of the sessions at the devcon last June.

If I remember correctly, v1.2 implements the FunLights interface (http://brewforums.qualcomm.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=676&highlight=funlight).

You should use v1.1 of the SDK to develop for phones equipped with v1.2 of the AEE.

This is what BREW support said:

There is no 1.2 SDK. To develop for 1.2 handsets, you can either
1) Use the 1.1 SDK or
2) Use the 2.0 SDK, but be careful not to use 2.0 specific features during development.

BREW 1.2 adds support for the following features:
IFont
IBitmap
Bluetooth
IClipboard
IHTMLViewer
Mobile Originated SMS (MOSMS)
ITAPI Enhancements

If your application needs to use any of the above features, you should use the 2.0 SDK for development. Please be careful about including any 2.0 specific features as it could cause unwanted behavior when actually run on the device. If you are not using any of the BREW 1.2 features, it would be safer to use the SDK 1.1 and has the bonus of being directly compatible with 1.1 handsets as well.

Additionally, please refer to the device data sheet to reference what features may not be supported by the particular OEM.
