Hi,
I have Motorola C357 phone and USB Data cable. I am unable to connect to BREW Apploader with the USB cable. It would be great if any one guide me the procedure and settings to laod apps.

Thanks,
- John

When you have the USB drivers loaded and plug in the cable, your phone should show up on a COM port above the normal 1 or 2 you have on your machine.

First try looking in Control Panel at the Phones and Modems section.
Look under Modems, and it should show you what port # the phone is on.

If you don't see it there, try looking at it by USB connection:

Check in Device Manager, View by Connection, browse to your USB hubs (typically, that will be to select ACPI Uniprocessor PC, Microsoft ACPI compliant System, PCI BUS...you should then see one or more USB controllers.

Expand each of those trees until you find the phone.

Then select the properties of the phone and it should tell you what port it is on.

In AppLoader, select the port number from the dropdown. That's about all there is to it.

I am getting two COM port numbers in Device Manager. One is under Modem and another is in ports. I tried with both COM port numbers in Apploader but Apploader is unable to detect the device. I used Apploader1.1 as well as Apploader3.0.0. Do i have to change any setting in the device or in the PC?

Thanks,

With the Moto phones that I've tried (haven't worked with that particular model) there's usually only one port associated with the phone.

Most of the LGs will have two ports, and the second (higher numbered) of them is always the one to use.

Perhaps someone who's got the same phone can help. Perhaps there's a different USB driver that will work better?

With the same drivers when i tried to connect to Apploader i got the following Error
"could not locat required Brew directories on the specified device. Pls verify the specified Brew version". This is with Apploader 3.0.0

With Apploader 2.0 i am getting " could not detect any device with the specified device id" error

Moto c357 Brew version is 2.0.2.6
PC O/S : windows 2000.

Can u guess what could be the reason?

Thanks,

That's the error message I would expect if you tell App Loader to use a COM port that doesn't have a phone talking on it...or on the LG phones, if you choose the wrong port of the 2 the USB driver provides.

If you have no phone attached, you will probably be presented with between 1 and 4 com ports in App Loader--those that your PC always has (mine has 2).

When a phone is connected properly, there will be some other COM port listed in the dropdown list.

1) What COM ports are listed when you start App Loader with no phone attached?
2) What COM ports are listed when you start App Loader with a phone attached?
3) What COM port are you choosing?

One other thing (though I've not seen it with the Moto phones I've worked with): Some of the cables have active circuitry in them. These will show up as a valid USB device, even with the phone turned off. But they won't actually talk to the phone unless the phone is turned on. Be sure your phone is ON, and not on the Get It Now screen (or Axcess screen for Alltel).

Two comports are shwon in the Device Manager when attached.

When Apploader Started 4 COM ports(Mine 4) are listed in the dropdown with NO phone attached.

When Apploader Started 6 COM ports are listed in the dropdown with phone attached.

By selecting the first COM port, from new 2 COM ports, i am getting "Could not locate required Brew directories on the specified device. Pls verify the specified Brew version" error.

By selecting the Second COM port, from new 2 COM ports, i am getting " Could not detect any device with the specified device id" Error.

I think with the first com port Apploader is detecting the device but unable to find Brew directories. I think in the phone Brew Test option was disabled. How to Check or Change this option in the device. Is any software to read/write the phone data?

Thanks,
