Hello all,
I looked around but couldn't find the answers to a couple starter issues...
1) My emulator didn't come with the T720 device - can this be downloaded from somewhere?
2) I've seen that the T720 needs to be put into test mode? What does this do and who can do this? Do I have to take the phone to Verizon (my provider)? Can I do it myself?
Thanks!!!

You can download the device emulator files for T720 from developers extranet.
You need to test enable your phone inorder to download your application on to the phone and testing purpose. This holds true for all kind of devices if you intend to download your application to device using serial cable. You need to send it to the QCOMM but i remeber reading a post where someone mentioned it can be done by ourselves. Iam not sure.

does anyone have any information on either method of converting a retail phone to a development phone? i know i read that it can be sent to qualcomm, although i can't locate any specific info regarding the address, the department it should be sent to, length of time it takes, etc ...
i've also heard that switching modes can be done by the end user, although i can't seem to get the actual process on how to do this.
any information you could provide will be greatly appreciated.

You can find the address here. (http://www.qualcomm.com/brew/developer/resources/ds/faq/techfaq24.html#T1D)
I have seen one or two people allude to having the ability to test-enable the phones themselves but noone has, to my knowledge, ever published the procedure. There was a post put up by Qualcomm a while back that stated the phone center was seeing quite a few phones that had been screwed up by someone trying to test-enable it themselves.
It generally takes a few business days to get your phone back.

Yes, the procedure is very fast!
You send it to them and Qualcomm usually returns the handset to you by overnight express the same day they received it.
So, during all the time that you've been trying to find out how to do it without Qualcomm you could already ahve your phone back from them. ;-)
