Is QUalcomm planning to charge users for the use of the UI Toolkit extension or will it be free.

AFAIK it's going to be free.

I am quite impressed with the range of utilities the BREW UI toolkit claims to provide .
(a) For our application, I would be using widgets extensively. But the size of
the dll is 540 K. Thats quite LARGE. Is this a debug build or release build?

(b) Say if the toolkit is released, would it be bundled along with the
platform and we can be sure that the runtime libraries would be
available on the phones? Or we should bundle them along with our
application? Since the toolkit itself is large, it would be simply impossible
to package it with application.

(c) Say if the toolkit is't released publicly and is shelved for any reason,
how do we go about distributing the app?
Rather, the question should be framed as - how are extensions distributed
on to the phone.

Also it wold be of great help if anyone inside QUALCOMM could tell me
about their confidence levels of release of the toolkit. [ Well, we did see
in past many vendors have backed off from products leaving its customers
in lurch ]

Thank you,

Kiran

DLL size doesn't mean much...the MOD is what's loaded to the handset.

As with all extensions, it will be downloaded the first time an application that has a dependency on the extension is downloaded. Later application downloads will use the same installation.

I suppose you could submit the UI Toolkit extension as a private extension. Not sure how the legal people would react to that though.

Very confident.
