Dear Friends,

For BREW technology is there any central authority which decides specification about the features that should be provided by the device manufactures who use the BREW technology?

For example, in Japan, for imode and iappli technology NTT DoCoMo specifies what the size of the application should be, what is the maximum number of bytes that can be sent and received over the network and such things. Is there any central authority which specifies such things for BREW or it will be dependent on the device manufacturer and so such things would be different for every phone.

Would anyone please tell me, if there is such a central authority which it is and from where I can find more information about this. And if there is no such central authority then will not there be compatibility issues in future as an application may work on one device but not in other.

Would anyone comment out on this issue and give me guidance.

Thanks
gaurang.

The simple answer to this question is that Qualcomm is the central 'authority' on BREW APIs. The wireless carriers (aka telcos) are the 'authorities' on application size and similar issues. The handset OEMs are the 'authorities' on inclusive functionality issues (GPS, MP3, etc.) in their handsets and will keep developers informed via the handset data sheets available on the BREW Developer Extranet.

You can see from the previous description that BREW is an open platform with collaborative input from developers, carriers, handset manufacturers and Qualcomm.
