Hello,
I'm currently having some problems uploading to the nokia 3589i. I've installed all the drivers required (Apploader is version 3.0.0.12) and can connect to the device all fine and dandy. However, while i can copy the MOD, BAR and SIG files to the device into their correct directory (After creating it) I cannot copy the MIF file. All I keep getting is the same error message ...
Error - MIF files are allowed to be copied only in the BREW MIF directory on the device.
I've tried copying to the root folder, to the application folder, en & es & pt & shared folders , i've even tried creating a MIF folder. But nothing works. Any ideas anyone?

MIF file needs to be at the root level directory.
I didn't use apploader 3.0.0.12, but one thing I can tell you is that apploader 2.1 is far less reliable than apploader 2.0.

Thanks for replying.
I've already tried to root folder. As this is the default on all the other devices i've tried, but with the nokia the Apploader just complains that i can't put it in that or any other folders

Delete all your old files of the app from the device and then make a complete installation of your app using the "Create New Module" menu entry from the AppLoader. This way all the files will be copies into their proper locations automatically.
This usually happens when you drag your application files directly into the application directory and then immediately try to drag the MIF into the side pane. It's a bug in Apploader where the side pane isn't considered to be "active", so it tries to load the MIF into the application directory. You need to click on a folder or something in the side pane to make it "active".

Interesting. I've never actually tried to drag to the side pane (Folder pane I assume), I never thought that would work. I was dragging and dropping into the file window or just right clicking and selecting new->file.
On a side note, this is the first app i've tried to install on the 3589I
But however dragon solved the problem I had to install via the "Create New Module" otherwise it never recognised the MIF.

How did you get AppLoader 3.0.0.12 to connect the Nokia?
First of all its a 1.x device: I've tried to change the ini file to say version=1, and from there I tried to use the command prompt to run AppLoader, to no avail.
I have all the Nokia dlls, which I manually installed (because the auto installer looks for Tools Suite 2.X). I put the appropriate dlls in the suggested directories and used regsrv32 to register them.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ie:
mti32.dll and cmnfilemanagerfn.dll are the Nokia support modules, and go into a "designated" directory such as <brew_tools_location>/nokia. These two dll's that go into <brew_tools_location>/nokia need to be registered using the command: regsvr32.exe <dllname>
fb_mmt32.dll and fbusdcm.dll are the FBUS driver files. They go into the windows system folder (for example /WINNT/SYSTEM32). fbusdcm.dll also needs to be registered by using the command: regsvr32.exe <dllname>
NokiaAppLoader.dll is the OEM dll. It should be placed in the folder where the other OEM dll files are placed (usually <brew_tools_location>/OEMLayer)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can the dll files go almost any where just as long as you register them, or do they have to be put in specific directories that I am failing to specify correctly?
Any suggestions...?
Thanks,
Ivan
Select 2.x as the BREW version to connect to a 1.x handset.

Thanks for the fast replies! I tried as you said: setting the version to 2.x, but it didn't work.
I'm using a serial cable, and I have a DES dongle key. But, I get the error -- Could not connect to the device using specified device id
any suggestions?
Ivan
Are you using the dongleless cable (DAU-9T)? We've seen cases where it won't work if the dongle is plugged in.

Yes, I am using the cable type DAU-9T (I'm not sure if its dongleless?), and I just tried AppLoader without the dongel key. But, it didn't work.

I can't upload if the Palm HotSync is active.
Could something like that be happening in your case?
I guess it's a new issue on the 3.0 Tools:
Nokia DLL users who wish to use 3.0.0 BREW AppLoader to copy MIF files to the device can do so by loading the module associated with the MIF to the device instead of copying a single MIF file to the device.
You may load a module to device by using either AppLoader "Module -> New" menu option, or dragging and dropping the PC directory containing the module files to the AppLoader window. Loading the module will copy all module files (including the MIF) to proper locations.
