Hi,

I am not able to download BREW software to AudioVox 8600 ... Looking at this forum, a lot of people are already doing this, so I am sure I am missing something simple. Please excuse me for the newbie question. Now ...

Here's my environment:
- Phone is AudioVox CM 8600
- Connecting to this from my PC (tried on XP and 2000) using Verizon Mobile Office Kit USB cable

Here's what I did:
- Sent the phone to Qualcomm to enable "development mode".
- Installed BREW Tools Suite 2.1.1 (not 2.1.2 because I belive 2.1.1 is for BREW V2.0 phone and 2.1.2 for BREW V3.0).
- Connected the phone to the PC using USB cable in Verizon Mobile Office Kit.
- Installed Verizon USB Driver.
- Started BREW AppLoader.

Here’s what I get:

First of all, I get an error when I start AppLoader.

"Error - Could not get system images" (I tried on another PC, and I don't seem to get this error there.)

After clicking OK, I get the list of supported phones.

Kyocera, LG, Samsung, Sharp, Toshiba

Neither AudioVox nor Curitel seems to be supported?

When I click OK, I get this.

"Error - Could not connect to the device using specified device id"

Interestingly, I get the exact same error when I launch AppLoader with the phone disconnected.

The cable and the driver seem to be working fine, as I can talk to the phone using software which came with the cable: QuickLink Mobile Phonebook.

The phone, AudioVox 8600, is supported by BREW V2.0.1, according to this page. http://brew.qualcomm.com/brew/en/developer/resources/ad/devices_op.html

So ... it's puzzling. Any idea what is going wrong and how I can make it work?

One thing I am wondering is that I may need an "OEM Layer DLL" which supports AudioVox / Curitel phone ... Is this true? If yes, how can I get this?

Any advice shall be appreciated ... Thank you.

most devices use the same dll (even if the devices arent listed)..

the "Error - Could not get system images" error could be causeing some problems.. ive never seen it before.. pehaps there is a problem with the install..

anyway, when you start the apploader, you have to select the correct com port to connect to under "select device id".. if you are using a serial port, it will be com1 or com2, if you are using a usb connection, there will be an extra com port added for that connection (ex com4), this is assuming that you installed the driver for the device. make sure the device is connected before starting the apploader.

Hi, Tyndal,

Thank you for your reply.

I wasn't picking the right port. I have a USB cable, and according to QuickLink app, it's on COM4. So I selected that. I still get the same error message "Couldn't find device in that ID". However, this times it waits longer ... It waits for probably 30 seconds before giving me this error message. Is it a sign of improvement??

Yes, device is connected and powered on when I launch AppLoader.

I installed the driver from the Verizon CD, but I am not sure if this is the driver you are talking about ... There seems to be another driver available (http://cholywell.phpwebhosting.com/audiovox8600/#usbdriver) ... but I wasn't able to install this one.

The device manager says, under "Ports", "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COM4)". Does this mean the AudioVox driver is installed, or not?? Where did you get "the driver for the device"?

Thank you.

i'm using brew tools 2.1.2 and have no problem connecting
to audiovox 8900 , 9500 , as long as i don't forget to set
the brew version of phone at the QCOMOEM.INI file:

[BREW Version Information]
Version=2

so that it recognize them ,

for brew v3 set it to 3

give it a try,

Hi, tyndal, stefano,

Thank you so much for your help.

I tried AppLoader 2.1.2, and I fixed QCOMOEM.init, but still no luck. Same error message.

[BREW Version Information]
Version=2

“Error – Could not detect any device with the specified device id”

stefano, how do you connect the phone to your PC? USB cable or serial?

I looked through the URL tyndal gave me, and some people seem to think the serial cable works better than the USB cable ... Should I buy a serial cable?

Serial cable is definitely easier/more reliable.

i wasn't able to use that configuration either, so i switched cables.

some phones have two different types of cables, those that work with consumer tools such as the phone book managers and some that work with apploader, from what i could tell the one that comes in the verizon pack might be the former

hi,

i'm using usb cables for 8900 and 9500
only problems are for 8900 the software
installed two ports com4,com5 the right
one is com4 ( and i keep forgetting that
all the time ) and many times i have
to reboot the computer in order to
connect the phone again if i disconnect the phone ,
somehow it looses the driver for com4
and not only that but it looses my mice together!!!

i'm using serial cable to connect a vx4400
and NO problems at all for that ........

so if you can go for serial...
