View Full Version : Getting AppLoader to work with Motorola 720

I downloaded the latest (2.0.0.8) AppLoader and it doesn't seem to work with the Motorola 720. It's not listed in the list of supported devices either. How do you get the AppLoader to work with the 720?!?!

Are you using a USB data cable or the serial one?

Serial. I eventually got it to work--just took a little mucking around.

When are they going to really fix the AppLoader though? 2.0.0.8 is a little better, but it still freaks out every once in awhile and you have to reboot for it to recognize the handset again.

It also doesn't seem to like communicating on COM2 (which was my problem with the Motorola)

I'm assuming the USB connection is much faster?

Oh, could you also tell me where I can get the serial data cable for T720? I found the serial data cable on Motorola web site but not for T720...

You need to get into the developer extranet in order to get the new apploader. If you have a password for the extranet, then just download it from the developer/tools part of the site. Otherwise, you need to blow $400 annually (at least) on a Verisign Brew Authentic Document ID subscription to get in.

I didn't get the cable myself--so I'm not sure where you would buy it. It looks suspiciously like the data cable for Motorola's iDEN Java handsets (i85s etc.). I have hunch that it is--and that you can use the same cable. But don't quote me on that.

do you know the model number of the serail cable you're using?

Thank you, Flarb! I got the serial data cable for i85s, and it does work for T720 :)
My T720 talks to AppLoader now... then i can forget about getting the USB data cable work for now :)

I got the USB data cable for T720 work with AppLoader... be sure to get the Mobile Office Kit from Verizon, not from Motorola. The one from Motorola doesn't provide the proper driver for T720, and I'm told that there'd be new version of it that works with T720, in few weeks.

p.s. the USB data cable seems faster than serial one :)
