Hi,

In my application, I am using around 10 databases. But only one or two of them will be open at any time. Is this OK ?

Is there a limitation to the number of files/databases that an application can use ?

Is there a limitation to the number of files/databases that can be opened at any instant ?

If someone can answer these questions that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Each phone is subject to OEM limitations on the number of files/databases allowed, their size, and how many can be open simultaneously. It is important to check the return value from IFILEMGR_OpenFile() and IDBMGR_OpenDatabase() to ensure validity of the file/database pointer.

On the Sharp Z-800, the following restrictions apply:
1. No file may exceed 200KB
2. The maximum number of files under \brew should not exceed 93
3. The maximum number of directories under \brew should not exceed 99
4. Maximum number of files simultaneously open is 10. Since a database comprises of 2 files, this means 5 databases can be open at a time.
5. BREW Components and apps are restricted toa total of 1.5MB EFS.

The Sharp guidelines for BREW apps will soon be available on the Developer Extranet. Published guidelines for the Kyocera 3035 are not available at this time.

BTW, did anyone notice any co-relation between file size and or number of files that application may be using and battery life?
Does it make sense to look into that? Is there anything else related to files and file operations which might impact cell phone battery life?

Make certain you do not exceed these file number as there is a good chance they will destroy your filesystem and you will have to have your handset reflashed to get it working again!

Funny how Brew applications are going through all sorts of rigorous tests while the actual handsets are just flawed with bugs to no end.

some carriers also restrict the number of files, as Verizon for example
