(Sorry if this is a newbie question, but I read just about everything before posting)

We are using the latest BREW tools with AppLoader 2.1.1 and a Motorola T720 (test-bit enabled) with a USB cable.

We have worked around the usual issues of failing to detect, etc and am able to see the EFS and load/remove applications.

We are trying to track down several issues from that point on which eventually results in damaging the phone software such that it fails to startup and continually cycles the screen -- likely requiring reflashing.

1) Apploader only shows one DLL later -- QCOMOEM.DLL -- which does not list the Motorola as a supported device. Is there another layer we should be using?

2) We cannot "RESET" the device from AppLoader -- hangs.

3) Any idea on what is causing the corruption on the device? I assume it is memory over-writes which we must simply track down.

Thanks for any insight!

Thomas

1) AFAIK, that is the only one there is, but it works for all devices I've used.

2) You dont need to, just disconnect the phone and power-cycle it. I've noticed that it is only really necessary to power-cycle the phone when you make changes to the mif files. (maybe just when adding/deleting them). You can change your mod, bar, and other files without needing to reset/power-cycle the phone

3) Havent seen any corruption, so Im afraid I can't help you.

The apploader doesn't seem to be a very stable application in general, but its all we've got.

We are currently investigating similar issues with USB drivers from QCT. I can recommend that you do not reset the device from apploader, nor should you disconnect the device prior to shutting down apploader. If you need to switch device you should close apploader first. We have not yet found the cause of this error but suspect that it could be in the OEM layer dll. If you have more than one dll (from multiple installations of tools) make sure you are picking up the latest. When more information is available it will be posted.

Ouch ... just toasted another Moto T720 ... it now fails to power up.

A demo app had been loaded on the phone yesterday and ran without issue.
Today, we did the following:

1) attach 720 to USB (COMM 5) using the cable/kit from Verizon
2) power-up phone
3) load AppLoader (2.1.1) and select COM 5
4) delete the application module from the phone
5) re-add the module to the phone
6) noticed app was back in directory
7) exit AppLoader
8) power-down the phone (still attached to cable)

we were now ready to test

9) power up phone (still attached to cable).... BAMMM

Now fails to complete power-up sequence.
Continually repeats the following sequence:
-- 6 seconds of dark screen
-- 6 seconds of main screen
Shows "No Service", clock seems to still work. Red power button is disabled.
Removing the battery and trying again does not fix it.

This makes 3 phones which died the exact same way ... after deleting and re-writing our module to the device and cycling power BUT BEFORE running our app.

HELP!
(ps ... I will repost this article as a new thread so it does not get lost under this topic)

Kevin - The QCOMOEM.DLL is version 2.1.0.8 and is stamped 4-10-03 4:39 PM, 133KB. I assume this is the one downloaded with 2.1.1.

USB support is not fully provided. This is due various issue that we are currently investigating. Please try to us serial cables in the mean time. We are working to provide a smooth USB device<->tools interaction. Sorry for any inconvenience.
