I am looking at BREW for supporting MIDI ringtones. Version 1.1 has an object to handle the ringers, 1.0 doesn't. How would you let a user change their ringtone via BREW? Would you just send the file via sockets and save it in the correct place?
I am new at this, sorry if I am missing anything obvious.

In 1.0 you will need to make special arrangements with the OEM. In 1.1 this will be handled via the IRingerMgr Interface. If you wish you can load ringers with your application and/or download them to the phone via a TCP or UDP socket.
I was just wondering if you could write the file to a specific place and have the user set that file as their new ringer tone. If not then how is this done? The post said to make arrangements with the OEM. Is that what you did to solve the problem.

As kevin said, you need to make special arrangement with OEM to have your phone supports IRINGERMGR interface. With this you can download the ringer files on to your phone and then set. Yes you need to create the ring tones from the downloaded data. There are API available in IRINGERMGR interface to create a new ring tones and then manage them accordingly. Already applications like Modtones have been launched by verizon which downloads the ringtones to the phone over the air.
